3-D Camera/Depth sensor - Project Natal

Post by GChrome on Thu Jun 04, 2009 11:35 pm

Google it to find out what it is!

Or you can find it here if you don't want to google it...
Spoiler:

And a video of it in action...
Spoiler:

And if you don't want to watch the videos:

Project Natal uses a 3-D camera (can detect depth unlike the EyeToy which only detects 2-D movements) to track your body in the real world. This can be used to control your character in game, to move how you move. For example if you wave your hand in the real world infront of the camera, the character will wave their hand. Project Natal also has facial and voice recognition for other purposes as well.

Yeah... So... Lets talk about it Very Happy Razz

Yeah, I really want to try it when it comes out, (that is if it works) good for people who want to lose weight, or need to Razz

You get to use your WHOLE BODY Very Happy and move in 3-D space.

Of course, we could spiral downwards into some discussion regarding the increasing similarity between human and robot, etc.

With project Natal you don't need to wear anything! It's just a camera that senses where you are in three dimensions! But I wonder what the limits are for that... Lets say your controlling your avatar, what happens if you like make yourself in a knot? Or wear a costume while your controlling your avatar? Hmm...

EDIT: When I said you don't need to wear anything, I meant you don't need to wear sensors on you Razz

I hope you do wear stuff... When you play that game. It would be disturbing otherwise...

sounds great... but to be effective, you would virtually need to be in a box of cameras...
